Medway Little Theatre has two active youth sections:
- The Youth Company (ages 12-18) meets on Saturdays from 10.30am-12.30pm.
- The Children's Workshop (ages 7-12) meets on Saturdays from 2pm-4pm.
We offer something for absolutely everyone.
Medway Little Theatre's commitment to young people has a long history. Our Youth Company dates back to 1964, when we realised that there was at that time no provision in the Medway Towns for youngsters keen on theatre between leaving school and working with our main company. The Youth Company has presented many shows over the years including visits to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Gibraltar One-Act Play Festival, and has provided hundreds of young people with an experience of the theatre which has undoubtedly enriched their lives. You don’t need previous experience to take part in the Saturday Youth workshops, just enthusiasm and commitment.
Our youth sections have the wonderful opportunity to work in their very own theatre. Our workshops deliver workshops on different aspects of the theatre world from acting, performing arts, improvisation, devising, text work, theatre styles, film, stage combat, mime, and a whole lot more besides. We also actively encourage our members to learn the basics of stage management, lighting, and sound design.
We also run a weekly Children's Workshop for younger members aged seven to twelve. Our programme for younger children is great fun. We explore self-confidence, vocal, literacy, team and problem solving skills.
Our two youth sections stage their own annual show and both groups combine for highly successful Youth Extravaganza once a year, as well as participating in adult shows, and the Duncan Rand One-Act Play Festival.
The MLT youth sections aim to provide an exciting and imaginative look at the creative world of theatre and gives young people a chance to form new friendships, gain in self-confidence and most importantly have fun, so if the theatre is something you are interested in, MLT is the place for you.
The Youth Company is organised by Kerrie Thompson, the Children's Workshop by Carol Scott. For more information, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
