A Murder Is Announced

A Murder Is Announced

by Agatha Christie

adapted by Leslie Darbon

24th January – 2nd February

Medway Little Theatre is pleased to welcome Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple to the stage in their next production, A Murder is Announced.

Set in 1949 after the turmoil of World War II, the quiet village setting of Chipping Cleghorn conceals the secrets and lies of the inhabitants of Little Paddocks, the home of Miss Letitia Blacklock and her young relatives Patrick and Julia, companion Bunny, lodger Phillipa and refugee cook Mitzi. When a murder is announced in the local paper, due to take place at Little Paddocks that very evening, it can only be a joke, surely?

Miss Blacklock prepares for company and is duly obliged by neighbours Clara and Edmund Swettenham and Miss Marple who is staying in the area. A robbery gone wrong leaves a corpse to be investigated and Inspector Craddock and Sergeant Mellors are soon on the case, ably assisted by Miss Marple - but will Rudi Scherz be the last one to die? The play is adapted by Leslie Darbon from the book of the same name and although murder is a serious business it contains some gentle humour to lighten the mood. We hope that you will join our cast of old and new MLT members in celebrating the ingenious plotting of Dame Agatha Christie.
